SafeguardingREPORT A SAFEGUARDING CONCERN

Attendance at Northfield Junior School

Good attendance begins with school being somewhere pupils want to be and therefore the foundation of securing good attendance is that school is a calm, orderly, safe, and supportive environment where all pupils are keen and ready to learn.

(Working together to improve school attendance, 2025)

At Northfield Junior School we want our pupils to:

  • Be resilient, reflective and to take responsibility for what they do.
  • Be motivated and enjoy learning.
  • Develop a range of skills to equip them for a successful adult life, such as independence and ambition.
  • Be confident, happy and feel safe.
  • Be friendly, respectful, caring and polite.
  • Develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain.

In a school that:

  • Fosters individual talents and abilities in every child.
  • Has the highest expectations for itself, its staff and students.
  • Celebrates success and achievement in all its forms.
  • Values the role parents and carers play.
  • Is continually striving to improve.
  • Actively promotes the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Some pupils find it harder than others to attend school and therefore at all stages of improving attendance, schools and partners should work in partnership with pupils and parents collaboratively to remove any barriers to attendance by building strong and trusting relationships and working together to put the right support in place.

(Working together to improve school attendance, 2025)

With this in mind, Northfield Junior School and PODS (Partnership of Dronfield Schools) have team together to create the following policy:

In accordance with the policy, Northfield Junior School has the following graduated response:

Leave of Absence Requests

All schools are expected to restrict leaves of absence to the specific circumstances set out in regulation 11 of the School Attendance (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2024

(Working together to improve school attendance, 2025)
