Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

I can't believe it is the Summer term already! This year has already flown by. This term we will be studying The Romans and how their invasion changed Britain. In English we'll be looking at writing recounts and letters based around Escape From Pompeii. We'll also be studying Earthquakes in Geography.

In Art we'll be looking at illustrating and in DT we'll be making 'Super Salads'. Our Science topic will focus around Plants. Miss Jones can't wait to get her green fingers growing again!

We'll also have a visit from Adam Pepper, to help us make our very own film, and a sports coach to teach us how to play golf.

Homework is due on a Friday, and as always we'd love to see lots of reads in reading records.

PE days- don't forget to come in your Northfield PE kit on those days. Also please keep an indoor pair of shoes in school in case it is wet weather.

Leopards: Monday & Wednesday

Lions: Monday & Wednesday, plus Outdoor Learning on Fridays

Tigers: Monday & Wednesday

Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

In this term, we will be reading ‘Cogheart’ by Peter Bunzl - an exciting story about mayhem, murder and mystery which meet in a gripping Victorian world of fantastical imagination.

In Maths, we will be finishing our fractions and percentages module and then we will be moving on to learning more about measurement and geometry. Please keep practising your times tables as it will help greatly.

In Geography we will be starting a new topic on changing climates. Our new history topic is taking us across the Atlantic ocean and into Central America. We will be learning about the Mayans. In Science, we will be investigating lifecycles in our Living Things and Humans and Animals topics. Our Art Topic involves looking at architecture as inspiration for our own artwork. We will also be designing and making aprons in DT.

In PE, we will be working on our fitness levels in track athletics as well as practising key skills for field events. We will also be developing our striking and fielding skills in hockey and cricket. As usual please come in the full school PE kit on your PE day. PE days are Tuesday and Thursday for the Hawks and Wednesday and Thursday for the Eagles.

Homework will continue to be set (and due in) on a Friday. This will be a page from the Maths homework books and weekly spellings to practice ready for a mini test. In addition, children can always practise their personal spellings, go on Times Tables Rockstars and practise mathematics skills on a programme called My Maths.

We can’t wait for a term of exciting activities – including: a day with Adam Pepper, an RE trip, Enterprise, Sports Day, and much more!

Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

We have an action-packed final term with some fantastic topics! In History, we are learning all about The Shang Dynasty! We will delve into the past and learn lots of fascinating information about this ancient civilization. In Geography, we are applying all our knowledge and skills we have learned over the year and we will also learn some new Geography skills. We are going to use our amazing grounds to continue to deepen our understanding of orienteering. In Science, our topics will be Light and Animals including humans. We will also be doing food technology in D&T so watch this space for some yummy food!

In our English lessons, we will be reading an exciting novel called Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz. Our English lessons will be based around the interesting characters and themes of this thrilling story.

In Maths, we will be securing our understanding of number, fractions, decimals and percentages, shape, space and statistics. We will ensure we all have confidence in a range of arithmetic and reasoning questions.

We will be continuing our revision sessions after the Easter holidays until SATS are finished. Therefore, children’s homework will be their revision guides. After SATS, maths and spelling homework will be set and marked every Tuesday. Don’t forget to try and read every night and take part in our reading challenge! Keep practising all of your times tables up to 12 x 12 and log on to Spelling Shed and TTR on a regular basis.

I am really looking forward to another great term!
